Inspiration —
I recently picked up some amazing self-care products from Modern Roots for a friend’s birthday gift. (Modern Roots is a boutique store with a location in my lovely town of Stillwater selling all-natural body care products and more—they ship to anywhere in the U.S. if you want to check them out. Minnesota-grown and produced.) I bought a variety of things for her to try and they looked kind of puny in the paper gift bag I was planning to use. I checked my stash and had a skein of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn in Wheat. Awesome—a crochet bag for the bottles will give this gift exactly what it needs—a beautiful multi-purpose bag.
Selling Points —
I wasn’t planning to write up this pattern because I made the size custom to fit the gift bottles I had. Then I realized that a bottle of wine fits perfectly in the bag, so I decided it might just be appreciated by some. And not just a gift bag, this sturdy bag can be used to hold your favorite coloring pencils or keep crafting tools corralled and in easy reach. Use the handle to hang it on a pegboard or hook in just the right location.
Design & Yarn —
Made entirely in single crochet, it’s fun, quick and easy to work. Worked with two strands held together, Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn gives it structure and a lovely texture. I have been using this yarn for years—like a lot of years—and it stands the test of time. The wheat color with its hairy strands of rust and dark brown is still one of my favorites. It looks so great worked into a project like this. I had plenty of yarn leftover, so if desired, continue repeating round 9 to make the bag taller.
I used the magic loop to start the bag. I just love how tight you can pull the first round together. It still often takes me a few tries to get a magic loop started, so don’t give up if you’re new to it. I think you’ll love the result.
